It talks about spoiling your daughter and letting her explore life in full. There Goes My Life (Kenny Chesney)įor fathers who devote everything to their daughters, this song is probably one of the best at understanding that. The power of love overcomes physical separation and brings the family closer again. This is a way to transcend distance and be with your daughter even when you are far apart. Parents who are away from their children will relate beautifully to this song, where the father feels they are close to their children even when they aren’t present. It considers how much a father misses his daughter when she leaves home, but how much he still hopes for her dreams to be realized. It walks through the quiet moments of family life and appreciates the changes with bittersweet lyrics.Īnother song that celebrates the little joys and frustrations of family life, Then They Do recognizes that there is sadness and beauty in the daughter growing up and leaving home. Not to mention all the steps that the parent and child will take together. Butterfly Kisses (Bob Carlisle)įor a man who wants to think about how much he adores his daughter, the lyrics of this song celebrate the joy of having a little one. It is also a reminder that marriage and growing up don’t remove this affection. It dwells on the way that life changes and people grow, and the way that daughters and fathers grow together and love each other deeply. I Loved Her First (Heartland)įor many fathers, their daughter’s wedding is a beautiful and sad time, and this song reflects this. She sees herself in the way that her daughter grows and is changing thinking about how her daughter will be happy as she raises her own family. To this mother, the light is in the eyes of her daughter, and it is this that brings her joy and gives her hope for the future. It sees the journey that the child will undertake, and talks about treasuring those precious moments.Ĩ. Slow Down (Nichole Nordeman)Ī celebration of the beauty of a young child and the different steps that they will go through as they grow, this song reminds the parents to make the most of the little one’s first years. It talks about all the things that the parent hopes their child will achieve and everything they will do, and the ultimate foundation of their relationship: love. A Letter To My Daughter (Kerri Brown)Ī letter that describes the parent’s warmth and affection toward their child, this song is full of pride and hope for the child’s future. More specifically how the father needs to look out for their child so that they can be good mothers and create a cycle of positivity and love. It talks about the challenges that the daughters will face in life. This song is about the bond between fathers and their daughters, reminding fathers to protect and cherish their daughters.

Two of them went after Fett but the last remaining IG-88, get this now, downloaded itself into and took over the freaking Death Star. But there were still three IG-88s out there. Fans only got one quick glimpse of this death machine, but it was enough to emblazon this oddly shaped engine of destruction in fans’ minds forever. IG-88 was all sharp edges with a surreal design and multiple big honking firearms. Pegg’s Star Wars enthusiasm shows as he fills the once tabula rasa Dengar with a salty, badass personality. Better yet, Dengar is voiced by lifelong Star Wars lover Simon Pegg ( Shaun of the Dead, Star Trek), and you just know that when Pegg was a wee lad he took his Kenner Dengar figure on many adventures. Dengar plays a secondary role in this episode (doesn’t he always) to Fett and Ventress, but when Dengar springs into action, he truly shines. That honor goes to the season four episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars entitled “Bounty.” In this toyetic installment of Clone Wars, an aimless Asajj Ventress joins up with a band of roguish bounty hunters that includes a teenage Boba Fett, Bossk, and the grizzled, weathered Dengar. These ladies rock pretty damn hard! The songs are textured with gritty music supported by the twin vocals of Toria and Kandra. The sound is edgy, hard rock metalesque contrasting to Maiah's music which I would best describe as perhaps Neo-Folk. Next performance was by the duo Dreadlight made up of Kandra Tolvstadt and Toria Beck who have been writing and performing songs together since high school. Her performance was certainly a showcase of an entertainer who gives 100% and rolls with the situation and prevails. She played over an hour and by the end of her set the rain had slackened to a drizzle. (check out Senorita on Dreadlight's YouTube)ĭespite the rain the spirits of the crowd were not dampened whatsoever and Maiah poured her heart into every song. A beautiful blend of voices which needs to be heard. Culminating in a stirring version of Radiohead's 'Creep' with her voice ever angelic against the dark lyrics of the song.įor a few numbers Maiah was joined by Kandra and Toria of Dreadlight for vocal harmonies. The music was a blend of her original compositions and covers as only Maiah can do them. Maiah was joined for much of her performance by Bethany Joyce on cello adding a wonderful counterpart to Maiah's raw arrangements. An enthusiastic NO and a request for Maiah to play 'I'm Only Happy When It Rains ' by Garbage which prompted Maiah to put an arrangement together on the spot performing a cover of the song to start her set. However she was protected from the elements and asked the crowd should she wait to start. Maiah took the microphone first and the rain decided to join her. There was a nice selection of merchandise for sale while a pair of dogs roamed the area and people were slowly arriving. However the backyard barbecue atmosphere wasn't hampered whatsoever as Maiah and Dreadlight casually did their soundchecks. A warm Saturday in Chicagoland with darkening skies slowly encroaching. This was a very casual event as one could imagine. Certainly worth looking Maiah and Dreadlight up on YouTube to get a taste of their music. I have only been aware of their music for a couple of months so it's all rather new to me. My impressions are as a neophyte in regards to these talented young musicians. James was gracious enough to invite me to see this performance. I also have a video in comment of the song "Tunic(Love for Karen)" by Sonic Youth off their 1990 LP GOO. It was a loving tribute to a remarkable woman who met with a sad and tragic end to her bright career. I present to you this video of a wonderful cover of the song "Superstar" performed by New York noisecore band Sonic Youth. She was listed as number 94 of the best all time singers in a 2010 ranking. Karen beat out John Bonham in a 1975 Playboy readers poll of best drummers. She felt most comfortable on stage behind her Ludwig drum kit. She was praised by Hal Blaine and Buddy Rich for her drumming. Artists such as Madonna, Sheryl Crow, Natalie Imbruglia, Shania Twain, Pat Metheny, Elton John, and Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon. A list of musicians who were influenced or admired Karen is lengthy. The legacy left behind by Karen and her brother is immense. The Carpenters had a 14 year career which saw the brother sister duo record 10 albums, have several successful singles, as well as have a few TV specials. Her three octave contralto voice is unmistakable. However she certainly made her mark on American pop music in the 1970's. Karen Carpenter was just 32 years old when she passed away, 40 years ago today. Not everyone's cup of Pennyroyal tea of course, to me this excellent show sums up a musical era and I still watch/listen to it regularly. I wonder how Smells Like Teen Spirit would've sounded? Drummer Grohl moved on afterwards and surprised us all with the consistent success of the Foo Fighters, while bassist Novoselic went into rather desultory but well meaning politics. It was a very relaxed professional set and showed an unknown side of the band to the world highlights include About A Girl, Come As You Are, the sublime On A Plain, and of course the gravely enigmatic All Apologies which became their unwitting epitaph. What of course made it so poignant was Cobain's apparent suicide 5 months later at 27 years old MTV (when it used to play music) reflecting the trauma for a generation of kids ran the video every day for months years! That generation has moved on and succeeding generations are as little moved by Nirvana as by the Beatles, so fast is fashion. It was just an acoustic concert showcasing some of singer Kurt Cobain's finest downbeat songs and a couple of downbeat covers. On 18th November 1993 they recorded an Unplugged video for MTV which became, to my ears anyway, their best - and last album in 1994. Such stratospheric sales caused many ageing rockers, from Bob Dylan to Rod Stewart, to book their own slot on the show ASAP, with inevitably variable results. Released simply as Unplugged, the LP went on to win six Grammys – and sell 26 million copies. Then, 1970s air guitar anthem Layla found a second life as a lounge staple thanks to this solid reworking, devoid of all earlier pyrotechnics. He died five months after taping the special. It now holds the record for being the most expensive guitar in the world after being. Love 'em or hate 'em, Eric Clapton's latter-day career has largely been defined by two timeless nuggets that came from the electric guitar legend's restrained unplugged appearance.įirst, the heartfelt version of Tears in Heaven everyone knows – the song he wrote about his 4-year-old son falling to his death from a balcony – was birthed from this session. Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain wanted their MTV Unplugged at Sony Studios in New York to look like a funeral. The 1959 Martin D-18E guitar was played by Cobain during his 1993 MTV Unplugged performance in New York. However, it will receive a vinyl issue on Friday, November 29, to mark Record Store Day Black Friday. But clocking at just 36 minutes and clearly shown up by their grunge rivals, the performance remained unreleased for years, despite being a fan favourite. It would see Nirvana, arguably the bigge. The result of which is thrilling, especially when lead singer Eddie Vedder clambered on to his stool and scrawled "Pro Choice " on his arm in marker pen. On November 18, 1993, one of the most iconic acoustic performances of all time took place on MTV’s Unplugged Series. Unprepared and fresh off the plane from Europe, Pearl Jam basically rented some acoustic guitars and played their high intensity electric set – at that point, basically classic debut album, Ten. Taped a year before Nirvana's episode, Pearl Jam's performance is instructive because it shows just how much more holistically Cobain and co approached the party. And thankfully, the purist former Beatle was the ideal artist to set the template so many others would come to follow – turning to a strict acoustic palette and side-lining his most familiar repertoire in favour of beloved covers and overlooked misses, just as Cobain would do so searingly two years later. Paul McCartney's entry gets included for one simple reason – it was the first in the then-two-year-old series to be released on CD, as Unplugged (The Official Bootleg). To celebrate the anniversary, here are eight of the most memorable performances for MTV Unplugged, most of which spawned stand-alone albums that would go down as classics in their own right. The lo-fi aesthetic pervades today in the content-hungry streaming age, replicated by everything from the intimate Spotify Sessions to the secret Sofar Sounds and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts. Amid grunge’s overdriven scream and hip-hop’s block-rocking beats, something about stripping things back to basics clearly chimed with the times. IN MEMORY OF JIM CARROLL 'I am posting this briefly as a Memorial to the great Poet and Writer Jim Carroll that was a personal friend/acquaintance/inspirat. Because of the water at the bottom of the toilet, the toilet will be bubbling/gurgling as the sewer gases come up to the bathroom. When your toilet bubbles when the bathtub drains, the house’s main drainpipe is clogged, and waste cannot flow out.Ī bathtub holds a large amount of water, and when it drains, the water displaces the sewer gases trapped in the drainpipes, which are forced to escape through the toilet bowl. Unlike a toilet bowl with bottled water to contain sewer gases, your bathtub drain doesn’t.Īs a result, all the sewer gases in the drainage system willĮscape through the bathtub drain, often with a gurgling sound. If this is the case, waste will not flow out of your house but will pile up in the drain. The toilet and bathtub drain is connected to the main house drain. Sometimes it is clogged not only the toilet’s drain but also the main house drainpipe. Bathtub Drains Gurgles When The Toilet is Flushed As a result, toilet waste and sewer gases will pile up inside the drainpipe and eventually be forced out of the P-trap, which leads into your toilet and bathroom smelling of sewer gases. If the vent stuck has a blockade, the sewer gases will pile up inside the stuck, and when the pressure is more than the toilet P-trap water can contain, it starts escaping through the water, informing of bubbles, and you might hear a gurgling sound.Ī clogged toilet drainpipe means waste cannot flow to the city sewer lines. Instead, the sewer gases move out through the vent stuck. This water prevents sewer gases from entering your bathroom and the entire house. This is possible because of the toilet’s U-shaped P trap. Toilet Bubbles When FlushedĪt the bottom of the toilet bowl, there is always a constant amount of water. The following are some of the signs that you have a clog in your drainage, resulting in a toilet or bathroom that smells like a sewer: 1. That will be a more laborious and more expensive repair. To prevent a backup, a clogged toilet drainpipe should be unclogged as soon as possible. When you flush the toilet, the waste displaces the sewer gases, which are forced to break the water barrier at the bottom of the bowl and hence the bubbling/gurgling. If the drainpipe or vent stack is clogged, the sewer gases will build up inside these pipes. In a properly functioning toilet drain, the sewer gases are supposed to escape through the vent stack, which runs out through the roof of the house. Make sure also that the water level in the bowl is adjusted correctly. Replacing your toilet wax ring or unclogging a blocked vent stack/drainpipe will, most of the time, remove the bad smell from your toilet. When the pee trapped under the seat dries, it smells unpleasant. In some instances, it could be caused by male members of the family, especially young boys who miss the target while peeing. When your toilet smells like urine, the wax ring could fail to seal around the toilet allowing urine to leak through it. It could also be caused by a clogged vent stack, meaning sewer gases have nowhere to exit the drain line. If your toilet smells like sewage, it is highly likely that the wax ring is not sealing, allowing sewer gases and wastewater to leak through it. A properly sealing wax ring is both watertight and airtight. The first is the toilet wax ring, and the second is the water at the bottom of the bowl.Ī toilet wax ring is a round piece of molded wax sandwiched between the toilet’s bottom and the top of the closet flange. Two barriers prevent your toilet from emitting a foul sewage smell. Last Updated on Jby toilethaven Why Does My Toilet Smell Like Urine/Sewage? It's definitely better than the one in The Room, it's way better than the one in Silent Hill 2, and it might actually be better than the one in Silent Hill 3, which would be quite a feat. In the same vein, the "Dark Silent Hill", the trademark crazy otherworld every Silent Hill protagonist slips into periodically by contract, looks as good as it hasn't in a long time. I already said the intro dream sequence is awesome. If it didn't have the "Silent Hill" name all over it, I would've probably gone much easier on the bad parts. Now, there's plenty not to like about Homecoming, but in general terms I have to admit that it's not as bad as I foresaw. And something appears to be moving under the water. Tactfully, Alex takes the gun from her hands and sets to investigate the basement, discovering, well, that it's flooded. Her dress is soaking wet, and a watery trail leads to the basement door. She tells him his little brother is missing, and that he should go look for him, in a tone that sounds like she's blaming him for something. Once at home, Alex finds his mother sitting on a chair, absent-mindedly staring through a window. Hey, does this place begin to look any familiar? There are an alarming number of signs all over the billboards with pictures of missing people. The town appears to be completely deserted. In any case, call it a respectful tribute or a shameless plagiarism, the scene is fantastic, so there.įollowing the tradition, the dream reaches a certain level of creepiness and then -BAM!, our protagonist, this time one Alex Shepherd, is violently jolted awake, just in time to give himself the welcome to Shepherd's Glen -his hometown, from which he's been long absent. It starts with a dream, which as a storytelling device reminds a little too much of the first and third chapters and, to complicate matters even more, the entire thing is a flat-out rip-off of the movie Jacob's Ladder but hey, we didn't call out Silent Hill 2 on that same thing, so it's only fair that we give this one the benefit of the doubt too. In fact, this might very well be the best intro sequence in any chapter of the series. The first few minutes of the game are surprisingly good. With that, and following the lesson I had recently taught myself through Prince of Persia 2008, I decided to try not to judge Homecoming as another chapter in the Silent Hill series, but instead to focus mainly on the fact it is the first American-developed one, to not compare, and instead to judge it by its own merits -in short, to not demand it to be Silent Hill 2, as I did with the others. For one thing, I sort of made my peace with the two previous chapters, to the point I'm going to replay them soon because I expect to enjoy them more than I ever could under this new light.īut more importantly, it allowed me to approach Homecoming with as clear, uncontaminated a mind as I never had for its predecessors. And, as such, it can never happen again.Ĭontrary to what that might sound like, this realization was something good. Sure enough, it's an exception that outshines any of the other game in the franchise in virtually every aspect, but it's an exception nonetheless. I mean, it is a part of the series, of course, but us fans tend to see it as the norm, as an example to be followed, when it's actually an exception. And not because Silent Hill 2 is this beacon, this unreachable zenith in the series, but because Silent Hill 2 is actually not a part of the series. However, this third time was somewhat of a charm, as along with the burn I had an epiphany: There's no "going back" to Silent Hill 2. Homecoming, then, comes to be the third game with which I get burned. I used to have this long lasting dream that the Silent Hill series would one day go back to what made Silent Hill 2 its undisputed highest point so far. Germany Criminal Code confiscations (§131: Excess Violence). It features a brand new graphics engine giving a realistic horrifying feel along with music composed by Akira Yamaoka who also composed for previous incarnations of the Silent Hill incarnations. The gameplay is the same as it's previous entries where the player searches for objects and uses weapons and hand-to-hand to combat and defend against grotesque monsters while solving puzzles to advance further into the game. This time around the player takes control of a new protagonist by the name of Alex Shepherd who returns to his hometown of Shepherd's Glen and learns of the disappearance of his younger brother, his search leads him onto the fog-laden streets of Silent Hill where he must search the desolate town in order to rescue his brother and learn of his family's dark secrets in the process. Silent Hill: Homecoming is the sixth entry of the Silent Hill series. There she will meet the worst nightmares from Emily. In her journey she will start running away from bullies and will be taken into a weird and more dangerous version of the city. And what’s more terrifying than what’s more realistic and closer to our daily lives. Her little cousin was suffering from bullying at school. It's much more in keeping with the development times Tequila Works wants. "In fact, the thing we are talking about here is really bad." I have my inklings what it's about but just as the team doesn't want to discuss it, for fear of spoilers, nor do I - just in case I guess right! "Definitely," project lead David Canela told me. It's, as the Gylt website says, "A journey where you face your worst fears and are confronted with the emotional impact of your actions." And, as in Rime, there's a deeper meaning than meets the eye. "No one is gonna miss you," they tell her. Gylt follows a missing girl, alone in an eerie town called Bethelwood, hiding from monsters and demeaned by vicious slogans on walls. Like Rime, Tequila Work's most notable work, Gylt will be a narrative exploration game. Gylt was announced at the Stadia Connect event before E3. Today is not the time to answer that question but rest assured, everyone will be able to play the game." "I guess it's not a design question, it's more of a business question. "Maybe that would be a question for Google."Ī frustrating string of responses (which certainly feel like they belong to an exclusivity deal). "OK we haven't confirmed that it's an exclusive yet," came the curious answer from Raúl Rubio Munárriz, co-founder and creative director of the studio - "that's a question we cannot answer". Have you got £120 for Tequila Works' new game? Do you even want Stadia? What else are you going to do? It's why I asked Tequila Works for clarification this week. Problematic because the only way to play it, when it arrives as a Stadia launch title on 30th November, is forking out £120 for the Founder's Edition bundle, because until the Base model comes out in 2020, you have no other choice. I ask because Gylt is currently in a problematic position. It says it in the title of the announcement trailer, embedded below, and in the video's description. Tequila Works' new game Gylt was announced by Google as a Stadia exclusive. This requires manipulating the register WDTCSR. The watchdog timer can also trigger an interrupt when it overflows. In between this time, the Arduino is either receiving data from the SIM800L or in sleep mode where it consumes less power. Here, the watchdog timer is set to reset every 8 seconds. if no data, the program exits the while loop and goes to sleep watchdog resets system every 8 seconds To save power, you want your microcontroller to go to sleep when nothing is coming from the SIM800L. Your application involves waiting for the SIM800L to send data when a SMS arrives. Say you are interfacing with a modem like the SIM800L through serial. Probably the biggest use of the watchdog timer is saving power. The system resets every two seconds, hence “Reset!” prints every two seconds. Then we enable the serial port and print “Reset!”: Serial.begin(9600) Here, we enabled to watchdog and have it reset the system every two seconds: wdt_enable(WDTO_2S) But if you run this on an Arduino UNO, the serial monitor will show “Reset!” every two seconds. Note that this function is an AVR function so you must include this before invoking it: #include Īs you know, anything inside setup() executes once. Where WDT Reset Timer is a constant describing the time before the watchdog resets. To enable it, we use the function: wdt_enable(WDT Reset Timer) The watchdog timer is normally disabled in an Arduino sketch. You can also configure the watchdog timer to trigger an interrupt when it overflows. If ever something happens and the loop is not completed, the watchdog timer starts to run and resets the microprocessor. In a program, the watchdog timer resets for every completed main loop. This means it is unaffected by any external oscillators (recall that Arduino UNO’s have a 16 MHz oscillator) and thus by the instruction cycle. In Arduino, specifically on ATMega micro’s, the watchdog timer runs on an internal 1 MHz oscillator. But what if we can’t press that button? You can reset the Arduino via software using the watchdog timer.Ī watchdog timer is an internal timer whose primary purpose is to “watch” the operation of the microcontroller. Now what if while inside the loop(), something went wrong either in code or in hardware? Normally we just press the reset button. Any code inside setup() executes once while code inside loop() executes again and again until the next reset. this code will enable all three arduino timer interrupts. In Arduino programming, we learn about functions setup() and loop(). diecimila, duemilanove, lilypad, nano, mini. Would anyone like to try the code and tell me what they find (I've modified the code for 8Mhz as below) I thought that maybe a clock division register was set, but I really don't want to mess with CLKPR According to Murata's info - "A" is 16 Mhz and the other letter is year/month of manufacture. I asked how those turned out and they said the Duck, Chicken WIng and Fish pizza was surprisingly good and considered to be near the top of their favorites. That kind of shocked me but then again, the owner was Chinese and they are located beside an Asian supermarket, that being T&T Supermarket. He has made pizza from Duck, Chicken Wings, Eel and Fish to name a few. Afterwards, I spoke to another staff member and she says the owner I spoke to is always trying out new pizzas. The owner indicated that his staff could simply eat the crust all day long with little toppings if they had to. The 10inch pizza would easily feed 2 people unless you were starving or in my case, just had to keep eating more and more pieces. The cost of this pizza came to just under $16 with tax but that didnt concern me one bit. The cheese was a combination of soft, creamy and stringy which was really nice to see instead of the hard cheese you find at the common pizza places. But I didnt really care as this was the best pizza I have tasted in a long time. I did find it moist from the water that was released from the mushrooms and other veggies but the pizza still held its own. Oh, did I mention this 10inch pizza was half to 3/4 inch thick in toppings? I didnt find it greasy as Tunit mentioned so was happy about that. I burnt the roof of my mouth as the cheese was piping hot and plentiful, the sauce was the die for and all the flavours of the meats and veggies was something else. My intention was to take it home but 15 minutes later, I had to try out one piece and all I can say is WOW. It had Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Ham, Garlic Coil, Green Peppers and White Onion. I wasnt sure what to order but the owner suggested the Western Round Up which is considered to be the "all dressed" pizza in Regina. I guess with so many people in Calgary who originated in Saskatchewan, Western Pizza was a good choice to open shop. There are 10 of these stores in Regina and for a city of 200,000, they sure do a lot of business. It has been around since 1976 and started in Regina so if tenure is an indication, this must be good pizza. I was able to talk to one of the owners and they gave me a quick run down of where Western Pizza originated. It took me a little bit to find the store as it is behind the Flight Deck Bar but once I arrived, it was well worth the trip. After Reading Tunit's review, I had to go check it out myself. |
